What must a tax invoice show?

Under the VAT rules of the UAE (Federal Tax Authority, Article 59), Saudi Arabia (ZATCA, Article 53), Bahrain (NBR) and Oman (Tax Authority), a full tax invoice must include:

  • The words “Tax Invoice” clearly shown (in Saudi Arabia and Oman also in Arabic, so GCCInvoice prints both).
  • Your name, address and VAT registration number (TRN).
  • The customer’s name, address and TRN if they are VAT-registered.
  • A unique, sequential invoice number and the date of issue, plus the date of supply if it is different.
  • A description of the goods or services, with quantity, unit price, taxable amount, VAT rate and VAT amount for each line.
  • Any discount, the total excluding VAT, the total VAT and the total amount due.
  • In the UAE, if you invoice in another currency, the VAT also shown in AED with the exchange rate.

Tax invoice or simplified tax invoice?

If your customer is not VAT-registered (a retail customer), you can issue a simplified tax invoice. In the UAE this is also allowed for supplies up to AED 10,000, and in Bahrain and Oman up to 500 BHD / OMR. Leave the customer’s VAT number empty and GCCInvoice automatically titles it “Simplified Tax Invoice”.

VAT rates in the GCC

  • Saudi Arabia: 15% (riyal, 2 decimals). A QR code with the ZATCA fields is added automatically.
  • Bahrain: 10% (dinar, 3 decimals).
  • UAE: 5% (dirham, 2 decimals).
  • Oman: 5% (rial, 3 decimals).
  • Kuwait and Qatar have no VAT yet, so a regular invoice is enough.

Note: GCCInvoice creates printable tax invoices. It is not connected to ZATCA’s Phase 2 (Fatoora) e-invoicing platform; businesses in that phase must also report invoices through an approved e-invoicing system.

It includes every field the UAE FTA and ZATCA list for a tax invoice and a simplified tax invoice: title, TRNs, sequential number, dates, VAT per line and totals. Saudi businesses that are in ZATCA e-invoicing Phase 2 must also issue invoices through an integrated e-invoicing system.
A full tax invoice is for VAT-registered business customers and shows their TRN and VAT per line. A simplified tax invoice is for customers who are not VAT-registered (and, in the UAE, supplies up to AED 10,000).
TRN (Tax Registration Number) is the VAT number the tax authority gives a registered business — 15 digits in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. It must appear on every tax invoice.
Yes. Choose “Also show VAT in” AED and enter the exchange rate; the invoice then shows the VAT and total in AED, as the UAE requires.
